Calvin Baty Debut Family Home

Front entrance to luxury Tampa home

Crescent Homes is all about enduring quality, and nowhere is that on full display more than the luxurious family home owned by Crescent Homes’ owner/manager, Calvin Baty.

Mid-Century Modern Vibe

This elegant $10 million contemporary home in Tampa, Florida, started as the remodel of a tired house built in 2002, but it was a home — on a stunning waterfront lot — that Calvin could see had incredible potential.

The reconstruction started by creating one-level living and 15-foot-high ceilings, features that Calvin says many of his clients like too. The ultra-high ceilings allow for abundant windows and natural light, giving the home an airy, uplifting feel that fits perfectly with Florida’s sunny climate and outdoor lifestyle.

Calvin also increased the size of the home by approximately 1,000 square feet, bringing the total to just over 4,200 square feet. He gave his luxurious family home a “fun and functional” layout that allowed the two Baty children to have their own space on one end of the house, a wing for the adults on the opposite end, and generous space for entertaining and relaxing in between.

Interior Design Professional

With the help of Mandy Vallowe Interiors, Calvin created a stylish look for his home with features such as natural stone flooring, and a warm-colored gold tile backsplash as well as a striking slate tile range hood in the kitchen. This room also has high-end Gaggenau appliances and a dining table that was hand-distressed by Calvin’s wife, Alisa.

Although the home has an open-concept layout, Calvin created a tall wall that serves to define the space between the main entry and the kitchen. The wall is covered with handmade concrete tiles with a raised design that enhances the home’s mid-century style.

The spacious and elegant bathroom in the primary suite features stone flooring, double sinks, and a shower with a curbless floor and infinity drain.

A peaceful retreat, the master bedroom

While Calvin wanted a cohesive design for his new home, he knows that the client gets what they want, and Crescent Homes delivers.

Waterfront Lot

Given the waterfront setting, Calvin also wanted to enhance the outdoor spaces. He added an outdoor kitchen and reconstructed the pool with a travertine tile deck and a waterfall edge. He also rebuilt and redefined the boat dock with a gas fire pit and seating. From the dock, the Batys enjoy their boat and jet skis or just soak in the peaceful setting adjacent to the Florida mangroves.

Calvin even replaced the grass sod lawn with synthetic turf, which he said conserves water, prevents fertilizers and pesticides from polluting the waterways, and minimizes insects. Although the family’s pet rabbit was bummed about the change, the Baty children are happy with it.

Calvin says he is cognizant that his kids are growing up quickly, and with their wide circle of friends, he says he plans to add another 1,000 square feet that can serve as a bonus room for the kids. The new space will also feature a bedroom and kitchenette to accommodate visitors or extended family.
